Private companies to present comprehensive proposal to rebuild Beirut port

BEIRUT -- The German ambassador to Beirut said on Friday that several private companies would submit a comprehensive proposal next week to develop the port of Beirut and nearby areas destroyed in last August in massive explosions.

The statement came after sources told Reuters that Germany would present a multi-billion dollar proposal to the Lebanese authorities next week as part of efforts to motivate politicians to form a government that can stop the country's financial collapse.

The ambassador, Andreas Kindl, said the companies included HHLA, HPC, Roland Berger and Colliers, and that this was not a proposal presented by the German government.
