Regulator calls for broad review of stock trading rules

Wall Street's Top Regulator is calling for a broad review of the rules that underpin trading in the U.S. equity market.

Gary Gensler, the chair of the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission, said on Wednesday that he has asked the agency staff to examine a range of issues related to stock trading including the so-called best execution requirements. He also said that the Stock Listing Settlement process could be shortened to the same day.

I believe that slashing the standard settlement cycle could reduce costs and risks in our markets, he said during a speech at the Piper Sandler FinTech Conference.
