Toyota to invest $800 million in Indiana plant

Williams - Toyota Motor CorpToyota Motor Corp said Wednesday it would add $803 million and invest 1,400 jobs at an Indiana assembly plant to build two new larger vehicles for sport use.

The Japanese automaker declined to say if the eight-passenger vehicles would be hybrid or traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, but one will be a Lexus model.Both cars will also include a semi-automatic driving system, allowing for periods of hands-free driving said the company.Toyota employs Sienna minivans and Highlander SUVs in Princeton, Indiana, right now and generates 7,000 people at its Indianapolis plant.

The company said in February that it would launch two new electric vehicles that will go on sale in the US next year.One of the new EVs in 2022 will be an SUV, said Toyota.
