WASHINGTON, April 20 -- United States Secretary of State Ned Price will meet on Wednesday with 15 foreign ministers of the Caribbean Community State Department spokesman Antony Blinken said.
They will discuss a number of issues in our region, including climate change and disaster resilience, and reinforce the deep bonds we share with our Caribbean neighbors, Price told a regular briefing on Tuesday, adding that the United States was continuing to support the people of St. Vincent after the volcanic eruption there.
The United Nations launched an appeal for$ 29.2 million on Tuesday to help about 15,000 people who have displaced when the La Soufriere volcano erupted on the island of St. Vincent in the eastern Caribbean earlier this month.
On April 9, the volcano erupted after decades of inactivity, sending dark clouds of ash some 10 km into the air and prompting evacuation of thousands of people. The volcano has continued to vent and rumble.
