Collaboration between Earth Corp. and Kao Corp. Leads to Innovation for Mosquito Repellent Spray

Japanese companies Earth Corp. and Kao Corp. have joined forces to combat the rise in mosquito-borne diseases, such as dengue fever and malaria, through the development of a new spray product named the ARS Mos Shooter. This collaboration was motivated by the alarming global increase in dengue fever cases, especially prevalent in Southeast Asia, where no effective vaccines or treatments are currently available, emphasizing the importance of preventing mosquito bites to protect individuals from these diseases.

The innovative technology behind the ARS Mos Shooter spray involves a fine mist that hinders the flight of mosquitoes. Kao Corp. conducted research on mosquito ecology, leading to the creation of a unique solution using an aqueous surfactant with low surface tension. When sprayed towards mosquitoes, this solution wets their wings and bodies, rendering them flightless. The effectiveness of this technology is highlighted by its planned release in Thailand in July, where Earth Corp. will oversee its distribution and sales.

The collaboration between Earth Corp. and Kao Corp. was sparked by a conversation between their respective presidents, Katsunori Kawabata and Yoshihiro Hasebe, at a social event. Expressing his interest in Kao's innovative technology, Kawabata initiated discussions that ultimately led to the joint development of the ARS Mos Shooter. With Earth Corp.'s established presence in Thailand's bug repellent market, the companies aim to address the pressing issue of mosquito-borne diseases by prioritizing public health and safety.
