Bulgaria to Hold Early Elections After Government Mandate Returned

There Is Such a People (ITN) returned the third and final mandate for forming a cabinet to President Rumen Radev, expressing gratitude for his trust. ITN's deputy chair, Ivaylo Valchev, stated that the party recognized the president's challenging position due to constitutional amendments opposed by ITN. Valchev wished Radev strength and wisdom, emphasizing that the future path now lay in the hands of the Bulgarian people.

Radev announced immediate meetings with potential prime ministers for the future caretaker government, which will be responsible for organizing early parliamentary elections. The president has the authority to select the caretaker prime minister from a pool of candidates, including the president of the National Assembly, the governor of the Bulgarian National Bank, and the ombudsman.

The mandate given to ITN marked the final opportunity for forming a regular government within the current National Assembly. Outgoing Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov expressed confidence that there were no grounds for a constitutional crisis.

With the return of all three mandates, President Radev is now tasked with setting a date for early parliamentary elections.
