Modi Prioritizes Trade Deals with Britain, Oman in 100-Day Plan

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to prioritize the completion of free trade agreements with Britain and Oman within the first 100 days of his potential third term, according to government sources. These sources, who have direct knowledge of the discussions, indicate that the trade ministry aims to include these pacts in its 100-day action plan, as negotiations are nearing completion.

Modi has instructed Indian ministries to establish annual goals for the next five years, which will align with the 100-day plan. Among these goals, integrating India into world trade has been identified as a key priority. The trade ministry and Modi's office have not yet commented on the specific priorities.

Meanwhile, Britain's department for business and trade has confirmed that negotiations for an ambitious trade deal are ongoing. However, they emphasize that any agreement must be fair, balanced, and beneficial to both parties.

India and Britain recently suspended their two-year negotiations without reaching a deal, but both nations remain committed to a new pact that aims to double trade by 2030. Oman and India have also expressed their desire to expedite negotiations for a comprehensive trade agreement, with trade between the two countries having more than doubled in the past two years.
